History of TeamSlowMotion:

It all started one night at the Southern Sun (a brewpub in Boulder Colorado) which by the way is the quintessential way to start any team. We all had talked about starting a small team before but that night was different. When I say different I mean there were two or three extra pitchers of beer that night. Later that same night we posted a quick website to get things started. The original intent was to make up some jerseys with “Team DFL” on them which stands for “Dead Censored] Last”, a common term used in racing. After a little research it turned out that Team DFL is already a real cycling team where DFL stands for something else. Thus we changed the team name to “Team [Insert Name Here]”. We sent out a couple of emails asking for ideas for a team name. After collecting a whole slew of names we then let everyone vote on them. The vote was a landslide victory for TeamSlowMotion which got more votes than all the other names combined. Thanks to all those who voted (votes literally came in as far away as Slovakia!)

Then almost as quickly as TeamSlowMotion began, it collapsed. I’m sure all the historians will have their own opinions on what happened but I think everyone’s motivation had fizzled (hung-over, lack of beer or something like that). The team basically went into a dormant phase before it even started. Several months later we ended up acquiring the domain name TeamSlowMotion after a hostile takeover. Since we had the domain name we decided to go ahead and put up a small website even though everything was in hibernation.
A couple of people kept asking about doing jerseys for TeamSlowMotion almost a year after the entire thing began. We thought about it for a while and then came up with the idea of using a tricycle as the logo. We search the internet for a good picture and then realized it would be easier to buy a tricycle and take pictures of it. After a vicious bidding war on eBay we acquired the perfect tricycle for the job, a 1950’s Colson Tricycle. We made a quick prototype of the jersey and sent out an email to see if anyone was still interested. There was a minimum order of 25 and there was limited time to get all the artwork done. We didn’t think we would make the minimum or be able to finish the jersey artwork so we pulled the plug. As a consolation to the jersey (and get some use out of that tricycle) we went ahead and had some t-shirts made. The t-shirts did start generating some interest in doing more with the team.

Again, a couple of people kept asking about doing a jersey almost a year later after the t-shirts. They were happy with just getting the prototype jersey already designed. Someone had emailed us about a company with a minimum order of five jerseys. After doing some higher math, four people really wanted the jersey so one more would make five which was the minimum we needed. We sent another email out to see who might be interested in getting a jersey thinking we would be able to get at least one more person to meet the minimum order. We were a little overwhelmed by the response and ended up with orders that totaled well over 50 items instead of the five we were looking for.

So where are we today. We are still around doing rides, races and other events. While things have tapered off over the years we are still going strong and having fun.
